Daddy

“What’s that? What’s that black spot?”

“Where?” the tech asked.

He jumped up and pointed to something on the screen. “Right there. What’s that?”

“Well, I’m not really focused on that area right now . . .”

“He’s never been to one of these,” I explained. “This is his first look. He doesn’t know what’s what.”

She smiled and nodded. As she glided the wand over my stomach she narrated what she was looking at. Finally she came to a view where she could see the black spot he was concerned about. “Oh that? That’s the stomach.”

He appeared relieved.

She took a few measurements and printed out pictures for us, then excused herself to let the doctor know we were ready.

I handed the images to him. “What was that all about?”

His expression turned serious. “I thought our baby had a hole in it.”

I have been reading your other recent posts holding my breath- hoping that your beautiful writing was truly a reflection of what was going on in your life- not just a piece of fabulously moving writing. But, now I can confidently offer my congratulations. Congratulations on a beautiful little bean- without any unexpected holes. How have you been feeling? I hope that you have been feeling well:-) Wishing you much peace, comfort and love.

Thank you, Amy. I wish I could say I’ve been glowing, but I’ve had hyperemesis since week 7 (I do feel trendier now that Princess Kate has it too). So things have been rough, but I’m sure it’s all worth it in the end.

      • Amy Cappelli says:

Yuck! I am so sorry that you have had to deal with that- I’ve heard that it is awful. We have had a few friends who have suffered with hyperemesis. It settled down for them around the 16 week mark. So hopefully you’ll be granted a respite soon and be give an chance to be all glow-y.

  7. Love this! And congratulations on your peanut. : )

  8. I always feel really stupid looking at those ultrasound pictures; they look more like some kind of funkyass tie-dye than forming humans…I share your husband’s confusion!

    • Stacey says:

I have to admit, sometimes I have no idea what I’m looking at — usually when someone asks a question like, “Do you think it’s a boy or a girl?”
